Catamounts Welcome Tennessee Tech on Sunday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina men's basketball team goes for its third home win of the week on Sunday as the Catamounts host Tennessee Tech at Noon. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with audio available on the Catamount Sports Network.

At 4-1, WCU is off to its best start through five games since the 2009-10 season following a 91-84 victory over Newberry on Thursday night. Sophomore Travion McCray scored a career-best 26 points, going 9-for-13 from the field, 3-for-3 behind the 3-point line, and 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. Xavier Cork tallied 18 points and had five blocked shots, the most for a Catamount player in a game since Kenneth Hall blocked six Appalachian State shots in an 84-75 overtime win on Feb. 8, 2014.

As a team, the Catamounts shot a blistering 62.5 percent from the field, making 30 of 48 attempts. The 62.5 field goal percentage is the highest single-game mark during the Mark Prosser era.

Tennessee Tech enters Sunday's game searching for its first win of the season following a 74-65 road loss to Northern Kentucky on Thursday. The Golden Eagles have also had setbacks against Indiana, Xavier, and fellow Southern Conference foe Chattanooga. TTU got a boost on Thursday as 2019-20 leading scorer Jr. Clay made his season debut after missing the first three games of the season due to COVID-19 protocols. Clay finished with 10 points.

Sunday's game is the eighth all-time meeting with the Golden Eagles holding a 5-2 series lead. The Catamounts claimed an 89-76 victory in Cookeville, Tenn. last season as Kameron Gibson led four Catamounts in double figures with 16 points.

WCU hits the road for its next game, traveling to North Carolina A&T on Dec. 12 for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
