AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Newberry meet for the first time in the two program's history on Wednesday. The game was added to the Catamount schedule late last week to give Western Carolina an additional home game before WCU's four-game road swing beginning Dec. 13 at Charleston Southern. WCU last faced a team from the SAC in the 2019-20 season - the Catamounts beat UVA-Wise 64-55 in its home opener.
  • Freshman Zanoria Cruz scored a career-high 15 points against Elon. She was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line - which was also a career-high. Her 10 made free throws ranks tied for ninth in the WCU record books for most free throws in a game.
  • Western Carolina, as a program, has hit at least one three-pointer in the last 335 games dating back to the 2009-10 season. The streak began when the Catamounts hit seven three-pointers in the 71-65 win at Wofford on Nov. 20, 2009.
  • Tembre Moates just missed recording her second-straight double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds against Elon. Moates 12 rebounds was a career-high and mark the first time in her career she has ripped down double-figure rebounds in back-to-back games.
  • The Catamounts have two players averaging in double figures after three games. Moates lead the team averaging 11.7 points per game while Kyla Allison is just below at 11.3.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE WOLVES:
  • Newberry's game against Western Carolina is the Wolves' first nonconference game of the season.
  • The last time Newberry defeated a Division I opponent was November 14th, 2018 when the Wolves defeated Winthrop 67-63 in an exhibition. Newberry will play two more Division I teams in exhibition action both from the SoCon. On Dec. 31st, they travel to take on ETSU and on January 2nd at Furman.
  • Freshman Payton Cronen currently leads the Wolves in scoring with 11.2 points per game.
