Catamounts Battle to Complete Season Sweep of Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.Carlos Dotson's jumper with 38 seconds remaining gave Western Carolina a lead it wouldn't relinquish in a 64-61 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon at the McKenzie Arena.

Clinging to a one possession lead in the game's closing seconds, WCU's Mason Faulkner calmly sank two free throws to regain a three-point advantage. Chattanooga cut it back to one-point game on a driving layup by David Jean Baptiste on the ensuing possession. However, Faulkner alluded a would-be foul attempt on the inbounds and found a wide-open Tyler Harris for a game-ending slam dunk as the Catamounts completed the seasonal sweep.

With the victory, Western Carolina (14-7, 6-4) completes the season sweep of the Mocs (14-9, 5-4) for the second time in three years.

Dotson tallied his fifth straight double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Faulkner came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points. Making his first collegiate start, Harris finished with 12 points while Onno Steger added 10 points. Saturday's game is the first win for the Catamounts this season when scoring under 70 points.

The Mocs responded with a 9-0 run capped by a Ryan 3-pointer to pull ahead 25-22 with 3:11 remaining. WCU outscored Chattanooga 6-2 during the final three minutes to lead 28-27 at halftime.

The Catamounts opened the second half on a 12-5 run following a Dotson layup that put the visitors ahead 40-32 with 14:31 remaining. Chattanooga used an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to gain a 43-42 advantage after a Villa bucket. Harris put the Catamounts back on top, 44-43, on a layup at the 8:29 mark before the Mocs regained the lead and used a Trey Doomes layup for a 52-48 lead at the 6:14 mark. The Catamounts knotted the contest at 52 on a Harris layup with just over four minutes left as the teams traded the lead twice over the next minute.
