SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina senior forward
Carlos Dotson was today named the Southern Conference Player of the Week presented by GEICO for contests played Feb. 11-17. The award is selected by the league office and is the second for Dotson this season as he first won the award on Dec. 10.
Dotson is the second Catamount to win multiple SoCon Player of the Week awards this season, joining redshirt junior guard
Mason Faulkner who claimed the honors in consecutive weeks on Nov. 19 and Nov. 26.
Dotson averaged 28.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in a pair of games last week, scoring a combined 57 points and pulling down 24 rebounds. On Wednesday at UNCG, Dotson finished with a career-high 32 points as he went 11-for-20 from the field and 10-for-15 at the free throw line and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. The Riverdale, Md. native followed that up on Saturday with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds, 10 on the defensive glass, in an 80-74 win at Wofford as the Catamounts completed the season sweep of the Terriers for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Entering Wednesday's league games, Dotson leads the SoCon in total rebounds (10.0 per game) and defensive rebounds (7.1 per game)while ranking in the top-10 in offensive rebounds (second – 2.8 per game), field goal percentage (fourth – 61.5), and scoring (sixth – 15.5 points per game).
Western Carolina opens a three-game homestand on Wednesday, welcoming VMI to the Ramsey Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance to secure the best seats and avoid lines on game day.
