UPDATED - Women's Basketball Hosts Furman at 5 p.m. Thursday

First of last two home games of the season

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – With the threat of inclement weather Western Carolina women's basketball's game against Furman on Thursday has been moved to 5 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Furman meet for the 85th time on Thursday. The Paladins hold a slight advantage with a record of 45-39 against the Catamounts. Furman has won the last five meetings including the most recent match-up at Furman on Jan. 25 with the Paladins winning 69-53. The Catamounts last victory came on Feb. 2, 2017, in Cullowhee with a 75-72 overtime win. Overall in the Ramsey Center, Western Carolina is 23-17 at home against the Paladins.
  • Redshirt junior Lauren LaPlant broke the program record for most three-pointers in a season against UNCG. She hit four three-pointers against the Spartans to amass 68 three-pointers in the season to take over the top spot. That mark had stood since the 2002-03 season and was a tie between Yoneko Allen (202-03) and Amy Baker (1995-96). LaPlant's 68 three-pointers in 25 games are the quickest in program history to reach this mark.
  • Western Carolina is 2-2 over the last four games averaging 55.5 points per game. In those last four games, LaPlant is averaging 13.8 points per game and Andrea Martin Ruiz is logging 11 points per game.
  • Freshman Andrea Martin Ruiz dished out a career-best eight assists against UNCG Feb. 15. She also scored a career-high 19 points.
  • Sophomore Jewel Smalls has 251 rebounds on the season moving her into 10th place in the Western Carolina record books for most rebounds in a season. She has the most rebounds by a Catamount women's basketball player since the 2007-08 season when former WCU standout Chevon Keith had 294. She also ranks second in the SoCon.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT FURMAN:
  • Just like Western Carolina, Furman is 2-3 over the last five games with wins over Samford and ETSU.
  • The Paladins have two players averaging in double figures: Le'Jzae Davidson (14.2) and Tierra Hodges (11.7).
  • Furman is 5-7 overall on the road overall and 2-3 in SoCon play.
  • The Paladins' 66.8 points per game rank second in the conference.
