Men’s Basketball Hosts Samford in Home Finale

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball concludes the 2019-20 home schedule on Wednesday as the Catamounts welcome Samford to the Ramsey Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Wednesday's game is Student Appreciation Night for WCU students. They can enter-to-win leading up to tip-off of the game at the student entrance for the opportunity to win a variety of prizes including Yetti water bottles, Eno's or a Camelback. Winners will be pulled throughout the game. The winner must be present at the game to receive their prize.

WCU is 17-10 overall and 9-7 in the Southern Conference after a 96-84 win over The Citadel Saturday on Senior Night. Senior Carlos Dotson led five Catamounts in double figures with 23 points and logged his 17th double-double of the season with a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior Matt Halvorsen tallied a season-best 21 points while redshirt junior Mason Faulkner (16 points), senior Onno Steger, and freshman Travion McCray (11 points) each finished in double figures. McCray dished out a career-high six assists and also grabbed a career-best six rebounds.

Samford is 9-21 and 3-13 following an 80-74 home setback to ETSU on Saturday. Seniors Robert Allen and Josh Sharkey led the way for the Bulldogs, scoring 25 points and 20 points, respectively. Redshirt junior Jalen Dupree added 12 points. The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's game having lost their last two games since topping The Citadel 74-62 in Charleston on Feb. 15.

The Catamounts lead the all-time series 13-11 after a 78-70 victory in Birmingham on Feb. 5. WCU used an 11-0 run to break a 37-37 tie in the early stages of the second half and held off a late Samford charge to secure the win. With a win Wednesday the Catamounts would sweep the season series with Samford for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with audio coverage available via the Catamount Sports Network.

WCU concludes the 2019-20 regular season schedule on Saturday, traveling to ETSU for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
