CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball plays its 29
th and final regular season game of 2019-20 on Saturday as the Catamounts head to ETSU to face the Buccaneers at 4 p.m. inside Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tenn.
The game will be streamed on ESPN3 (cable or satellite subscription required) with live audio available on the Catamount Sports Network.
WCU is 18-10 overall and 10-7 in the Southern Conference following a 109-78 home victory over Samford on Wednesday. The Catamounts will be either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed at the Ingles Southern Conference Tournament presented by General Shale next weekend and will face Mercer in the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. The finalized bracket and seeding will be announced by the conference office on Saturday evening.
Redshirt junior
Mason Faulkner recorded his second triple-double of the season on Wednesday with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 12 assists. Faulkner posted the first triple-double in the program's Division I era on Nov. 12 against North Carolina A&T. Senior
Onno Steger led the Catamounts with a career-high 31 points as he went 10-for-17 from the field including a 7-for-11 mark behind the 3-point line. Freshman
Travion McCray finished in double figures for the fourth straight game with 12 points while
Carlos Dotson and
Xavier Cork both finished in double figures with 11 points. Dotson logged his 18
th double-double of the season with a game-high 10 rebounds.
ETSU is 26-4 overall and 15-2 in league games thanks to a 60-54 come-from-behind victory at Wofford on Wednesday. Tray Boyd had a team-best 16 points followed by Isaiah Tisdale with 13 and Lucas N'Guessan with 12. The Buccaneers have clinched at least a share of the regular season SoCon title and will be the No. 1 seed at the conference tournament.
Saturday's matchup is the 84
th all-time meeting between the schools with ETSU leading the series 58-25 after an 85-66 win over WCU in the Ramsey Center on Jan. 18. The Buccaneers have won nine straight meetings and 13 straight games played in Johnson City.
