Catamounts Travel to UNCG and Elon This Weekend

Match with Spartans opens SoCon Play

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis hits the road this weekend traveling to the Greensboro, N.C. area to take on Southern Conference foe UNCG Saturday and former SoCon member Elon Sunday.

The tangle with the Spartans will be the Catamounts' SoCon opener after the home match with conference member Mercer was postponed due to weather on Feb. 7 in Cullowhee. The match is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sunday, the Catamounts travel down the road to Elon to take on the Phoenix. The Sunday match is set for 1 p.m. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Catamount Head Coach Bret Beaver who is a former assistant on the Elon women's tennis staff.

Western Carolina is currently seeking its first win of the season. The squad is battling key injuries and playing without key members of the team.

Senior Jordan Strickland, who already owns the school record for most singles wins in duel play, is currently tied for first place for wins in duel doubles play. She has 41 wins, tied with former Catamount Savannah Taranto, and needs one win to take over that spot as well.
