Catamounts Host Radford Wednesday in Doubleheader

First home games since Feb. 25

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina hosts Radford in a doubleheader set to begin at noon Wednesday at the Catamount Softball Complex.

It was supposed to be a three-game series, but the single-game Tuesday was canceled due to inclement weather.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
Western Carolina and Radford meet for the 14th and 15th time on Wednesday. The Highlanders hold a 7-4 advantage over the Catamounts. The two teams split the doubleheader in 2019 at Radford. The Catamounts won the first game of the doubleheader 1-0 last season with Kinsey Liscio tossing a four-hit shutout. Erica Hayes scored the game-winning RBI. Western Carolina is 3-4 overall against Radford in Cullowhee. WCU is 4-6 against Radford in the last 10 games.

The Catamounts went 1-4 at the U of M Tournament hosted by Memphis last weekend. WCU's lone win was a 5-2 victory over Belmont. The five runs scored by the Catamounts are the most since scoring six runs against Winthrop on Feb. 25.

In the U of M Tournament, senior Erica Hayes had a .375 batting average with six hits, three runs scored, three doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Freshman pitcher Jayme Eilers leads the Catamounts with 23 strikeouts. Fellow freshman hurler Savannah Rice paces the pitching staff with two wins.

Kylie Shay leads the team with a .273 batting average with nine hits. Hayes clicks the box on multiple levels - .256 batting average, 11 hits, six runs scored, five doubles, a home run, and five RBI.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT RADFORD:

Radford enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a record of 11-3 having won its last four games.

The Highlanders, however, have had a run of bad luck in the playing department having their doubleheader with North Carolina Central postponed Mar. 4 and the single game with the Catamounts on Tuesday. Because of this, Radford will not have played in 10 days when the take the field against Western Carolina on Wednesday.

Western Carolina and Radford have one common opponent in Youngstown State. The Highlanders defeated them 4-0 while the Catamounts lost 4-2.

Talia Douglass leads the Highlanders with a .513 batting average with 20 hits, 20 runs, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 13 RBI.

In the pitching circle, Jessie Marvin paces the squad with a 6-1 record, a 1.89 ERA with seven appearances, six starts, and five complete games. She has tossed 37 innings and recorded 30 strikeouts.
