Softball Travels to Home of the Blues to Compete in Memphis Tournament

Catamounts look to halt six-game losing streak

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina softball travels to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the U of M tournament hosted by the University of Memphis. To borrow a song from the city's most famous former resident Elvis Presley the Catamounts are looking for "A Little Less Conversation" and a lot more action.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina took it on the chin last weekend at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Top-25 Georgia going 0-5 in the tourney. WCU faced ranked Georgia twice in the tournament.
  • Overall the Catamounts are suffering through a six-game losing streak.
  • Senior Ashlyn Long had a strong performance at the Bulldog Classic. In the five games, she hit .333 with three hits, a run scored, a home run and an RBI.
  • Long has reached base safely in the last six games.
  • In the second game against Georgia, the Catamounts were no-hit for the second time this season. The Catamounts also failed to get a hit in game two against Clemson Feb. 12.
  • Sophomore shortstop Bailey Huneycutt leads the Catamounts with a .261 batting average with six hits, a double, two homeruns and five RBI.
  • Freshman hurler Savannah Rice leads the pitching squad with a 2.72 ERA with a 1-2 record. She has tossed 18 innings giving up 20 hits, allowed eight runs and struck out five.
