AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
- Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 28th and 29th time Thursday and Saturday with the Bulldogs holding a 23-4 advantage. The Catamounts are looking to break out of the Bulldog funk as WCU has lost 14-straight to Samford. The Catamount's last victory over the Bulldogs came almost seven years to the date - 54-50 on Jan. 13, 2014, in Cullowhee. In fact, two of WCU's four wins over Samford have come in the friendly confines of the Ramsey Center.
- Western Carolina opens SoCon play 1-0 for the first time since the 2012-13 season after defeating UNCG 49-42 Sunday. It was also the team's first opening conference road game victory since the 2009-10 campaign.
- Western Carolina's two-game winning streak is its first winning streak of the season.
- Western Carolina's 2-0 start in January 2021 is the first time WCU has began a new year 2-0 since the 2011-12 season with wins over USC Upstate and UNCG.
- After missing three games due to injury, sophomore Andrea Martin Ruiz returned to the line-up and starting five, to lead the team with 12 points in the win over UNCG.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT BULLDOGS:
- Samford junior forward Annie Ramil was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week.
- After missing the first three games of the season with an injury, junior Andrea Cournoyer has provided a needed spark for the Bulldogs in the last seven games. The Louisiana transfer is averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game.
- Entering this game, Samford, as a team, leads the Southern Conference in field goal percentage (.444), three-point field goal percentage (.356) and three-pointers made per game (7.3). The Bulldogs also rank second in the league in assists per game (14.7), assist-turnover ratio (0.8) and rebounding defense (35.3).
