Women's Tennis Opens Season Sunday With Addition of Lenoir-Rhyne

Catamounts originally schedule to start season Feb. 9

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis will get an earlier start to the 2021 season than expected with the addition of a home match with Lenoir-Rhyne at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24 at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

Originally, the Catamounts were scheduled to open the season at Clemson on Feb. 9 but the home match with Lenoir-Rhyne will give WCU the added home match in the uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It will be the eighth match-up between the two teams with Western Carolina leading 6-1 overall. The two teams last met April 16. 2016 in Cullowhee with the Catamounts picking up a 6-1 win.
Western Carolina returns five players from the 2020 season including lone senior Carli Deehr. The Catamounts also welcome back 2018 SoCon All-Freshman member redshirt junior Jordyn King along with junior Jacy Smith who was a 2019 SoCon All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshman selection.
The Catamounts also welcomes four newcomers to the team which includes two transfers.

Anna Uljanov is a transfer from the University of Akron after spending three seasons with the Zips. She was a team captain as a junior and a 2019 MAC All-Tournament Team selection. Overall, she went 47-25 in singles for Akron and 35-29 in doubles.

The second transfer for the Catamounts is Hoda Habib after transferring from University of Louisiana transferring in as a junior and will have two seasons with WCU.

Freshmen Antonella Benavides and Kata Foldeak also join the squad.
