Catamounts Host Piedmont Wednesday

Returns to the court after three postponed games

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – After a trio of postponements, due to opponent COVID-19 issues, Western Carolina women's basketball returns to action Wednesday hosting Piedmont College at 4 p.m. in the Ramsey Center. The game with Piedmont was originally scheduled for Dec. 31.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Piedmont meet for the second time on Wednesday. The two teams have not played each other since Jan. 10, 1981 with the Catamounts winning 86-53.
  • With three postponed games, Western Carolina has not played a contest since Dec. 21, 2020 – 15 days.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nadia Marshall made the most of her first start of the season, against Georgia Southern, recording the first double-double of her Catamount career with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was the second-straight game she had notched double-figure rebounds is averaging 12 rebounds per game in the last two contests.
  • The Catamounts have two players averaging in double figures after eight games: Kyla Allison paces the team with 13.3 points per game while rookie Zanoria Cruz is second with 12 points per game. Allison's 13.3 points per game rank fifth in the SoCon. Cruz tops all SoCon freshman in points per game with her 12 points per contest and also ranks 17th in the nation in free throw percentage with 96.9 percent.
  • Overall, WCU is 78-of-105 from the charity stripe shooting 74.3 percent.
  • The 61 points scored by the Catamounts against Georgia Southern was the third consecutive game WCU has scored 60 or more points in a game and the fourth of the year.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT LIONS:
  • Piedmont has seen action since Dec. 11 falling to East Texas 81-64.
  •  Piedmont women's basketball player Nakiyah Washington was honored as a USA South Decade Athlete of the Week for December 8-14. Washington is averaging 14.6 points per game.
