SUNDAY – LIVE STATS | ESPN+

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Graduate transfer Valentine Pursey leads the Catamounts and ranks tied for fourth in the SoCon, with six goals scored on the season. It is the most goals scored by a Catamount since 2017. Five of her six goals on the season have been game-winners.
  • Junior goalie Melody Mezzina continues to lead the SoCon in goals-against average with 0.60 and which ranks her 28th in the NCAA.
  • Western Carolina is 3-3-1 at home this season and 2-2-1 over the last five home contests.
  • Despite falling 1-0 on the road at ETSU on Oct. 9 Western Carolina continues to rank second in the SoCon rankings. The loss to the Buccaneers halted the Catamounts' three-match winning streak and five-match winning streak in road contests.
  • Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 16th time on Friday with the Bulldogs holding a 12-2-1 advantage. Samford has won the last five meetings including a 3-0 victory in Birmingham, Ala. in the spring 2021 season. The Catamounts last earned a victory over the Bulldogs on Oct. 25, 2015, defeating Samford in Cullowhee 1-0. Ironically it is eerily similar to this season's match-up as the Bulldogs come into Cullowhee, undefeated just as they did in 2015.
  • Chattanooga will roll into Cullowhee Sunday after a match-up at ETSU. The Mocs and the Catamounts match up for the 23rd time. WCU holds a slight 11-8-3 lead but the Mocs' have had the upper hand having won the last five meetings. Ironically just like Samford, the Catamounts' last win over the Mocs came in 2015 in Cullowhee with WCU winning 2-0.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS:
  • Samford enters the match Friday with a 6-0 SoCon record and leading the SoCon. After dropping a 2-1 overtime match to Texas, to close out the non-conference portion of the season, the Bulldogs have reeled off six straight wins in the conference to stand undefeated.
  • Bulldog Alyssa Frazier, who was just named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week, leads Samford with five goals and seven assists for 17 points on the season.
  • Chattanooga enters the weekend coming off a 1-0 win at Wofford last weekend snapping a three-match losing streak. The Mocs are 2-3-1 in conference play on the year and sits in sixth place.
  • The Mocs' Samantha Shaw leads the team with four goals and one assist for nine points.
