GREENVILLE, S.C. – No 3. seed Western Carolina women's soccer dropped an absolute heartbreaker 1-0 to No. 2 seed Furman Sunday at Stone Stadium in the semi-finals of the Southern Conference Championships.
The Catamounts end their season with 11 victories tied for the most since 2019, and also tied for the most under Head Coach
Chad Miller.

- Both teams played a defensive slug-fest and it was written on the wall if one team could steal a goal from the stingy defensive it would be the eventual game-winner.
- Marcil's shot attempt in the first half was a beauty of a shot that just went over the top of the goal.
- Furman scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
- Of the 11 shots the Catamounts attempted, six were registered as saves for Furman, but the majority of attempts were outside the 20-yard line.
- Western Carolina ended the match with 13 shots while Furman had six. The Paladins' lone shot in the second half was the goal scored on the Catamounts.
News & Notes:
- Western Carolina made an appearance in the SoCon semi-finals for the first time since 2017 facing Furman. WCU defeated the Paladins in 2017 with Furman getting revenge in the match in 2021.
- Transfer Valentine Pursey ended her Catamount career with seven game-winning goals which now gives her lone possession of the top spot in the nation. She also moves into a tie for first place with former Catamount Jordan Howell (2001).
- Western Carolina's 11 wins on the season move the 2021 club into a tie for fifth place, with the team from 2019, for the most wins in a season.
- Miller is the winningest coach in program history with 98 victories at Western Carolina.
