Greensboro, N.C. – After winning its two matches on Monday to advance to the championship pairing in Tuesday's final round, the Western Carolina women's golf team was edged by Elon, 3-2, in a tightly contested championship match to come home as the runner-up in the 2nd annual Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T at the par-72, 6,205-yard Championship Course at Bryan Park.
Western Carolina earned victories from junior
Victoria Ladd and redshirt freshman
Kayleigh Baker through the championship pairing. Ladd, who won each of her match-play pairings over the three-round event, downed Elon's Annabelle Ackroyd, while Baker was victorious over Lotte Fox by a score of 4-and-3.
Senior
Madison Isaacson was edged by Elon's Adel Vadkerti, 2&1, with freshmen
Elizabeth Lohbauer and
Kaitlyn Wingnean both downed, 3&2, by Kanokwan Ngamwong and Andrea Asmundsdotir, respectively.
In Tuesday's consolation bracket, Appalachian State claimed a third-place finish with a 3-2 win over the host Aggies. UNC Asheville defeated Howard 3-2, and Alabama State carded a 3.5-1.5 decision versus North Carolina Central.
Western Carolina returns to action Oct. 18-19 at the Buccaneer Classic, hosted by Charleston Southern at the Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
