Catamounts Cruise Past Pioneers in Exhibition Contest

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina had five players finish in double-figure scoring on Monday night as the Catamounts used a big first half behind the 3-point arc to defeat Campbellsville Harrodsburg 106-62 Monday in an exhibition game on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center.
 
WCU shot 50 percent from the floor (42-for-84) and made 15 3-pointers in the contest, 11 of which came in the first half. The Catamounts used a 17-0 run midway through the opening half to grab a double-digit lead it would never relinquish.
 
Cam Bacote led WCU with 18 points followed by Tyler Harris with 17, Marvin Price with 15. Marlow Gilmore and Nicholas Robinson both scored a dozen points apiece with Gilmore recording a double-double with 13 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive glass.
 
Kereion Douglas led Campbellsville Harrodsburg with 11 points followed by Jahnoi Lee with 10.
 
Leading 8-7 at the 17:13 mark of the first half, the Catamounts used a 14-2 run to claim a 22-9 advantage after a Bacote 3-pointer with just over 14 minutes remaining. The Pioneers trimmed the WCU lead to five, 22-17, on a Tyrese Duncan 3-pointer at the 12:30 mark. With WCU leading 29-21, a Bacote 3-pointer sparked a decisive 17-0 run capped by a Vonterius Woolbright jumper for a 46-21 lead with 4:41 to play in the opening half. The Catamounts led 55-30 at halftime.
 
A Woolbright layup opened the second half scoring as a Bacote 3-pointer extended the Catamount lead past the 30-point mark, 66-35. The Catamounts led by no fewer than 30 points and by as many as 46 during the second half.
 
The Catamounts open the 2021-22 regular season on Tues., Nov. 9, welcoming Bowling Green in the second half of a doubleheader with the women's team at 7:30 p.m. The Catamount women host Emory & Henry at 4:00 p.m.
