LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Western Carolina cross country teams competed in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship on Friday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
Sophomore
Sydney Runyan completed the 6K race with a time of 23:15.70 to finish in 123
rd. Runyan's time is tied for the 20
th-fastest 6K time in program history.
For the men's team, freshman
Justin Hayes led the way with a 10K time of 32:11.30 to finish in 124
th followed by sophomore
Drew Zink with a time of 32:42.50 for a 153
rd place finish. Hayes posted the 14
th-fastest 10K time in program history while Zink checks in with the 27
th-fastest 10K time.
"I'm excited about how we did today," said WCU head coach
Jesse Norman. "Of the four student-athletes we entered three of them got on the all-time list which was the goal today. This was a good experience for them and gives us something to build on in the future and to hopefully get others excited so that we can bring a team next year."
The Catamounts open the 2021-22 indoor track season later this winter. A complete indoor and outdoor track schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
