Catamounts Compete at NCAA Southeast Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Western Carolina cross country teams competed in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship on Friday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.

Sophomore Sydney Runyan completed the 6K race with a time of 23:15.70 to finish in 123rd. Runyan's time is tied for the 20th-fastest 6K time in program history.

For the men's team, freshman Justin Hayes led the way with a 10K time of 32:11.30 to finish in 124th followed by sophomore Drew Zink with a time of 32:42.50 for a 153rd place finish. Hayes posted the 14th-fastest 10K time in program history while Zink checks in with the 27th-fastest 10K time.

"I'm excited about how we did today," said WCU head coach Jesse Norman. "Of the four student-athletes we entered three of them got on the all-time list which was the goal today. This was a good experience for them and gives us something to build on in the future and to hopefully get others excited so that we can bring a team next year."

The Catamounts open the 2021-22 indoor track season later this winter. A complete indoor and outdoor track schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
