Catamounts Travel to Cincinnati Tuesday

First of a two-game road swing

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball plays its first road game of the 2021-22 season traveling to the University of Cincinnati for a 6 p.m. tip-off Tuesday against the Bearcats at Fifth Third Arena.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Cincinnati meet for the third time on Tuesday. The Bearcats have won the previous two contests. The two teams last faced off almost 12 years to the day on Nov. 25, 2009, at the Safeway Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Ak. with the Bearcats coming away with a 67-54 victory. The two teams first met in a tournament held in Murfreesboro, Tenn., hosted by Middle Tennessee, with Cincinnati winning 66-53.
  • Western Carolina opens the season 3-1 for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
  • Western Carolina has scored 70 or more points in three of its first four games of the year.
  • As a team, Western Carolina is shooting 44.9 percent from the field this season which leads the SoCon and ranks 65th in the NCAA.
  • Western Carolina has outrebounded opponents in all four games to open the season. The Catamounts are averaging 42.3 rebounds per game which leads the Southern Conference outrebounding opponents by a margin of 17.2. The 17.2 rebounding margin is tied for ninth in the NCAA.
  • Western Carolina has three players averaging in double figures paced by Nadia Marshall's 13.8 points per game. Vanessa Oduah ranks second with 12.3 points and Zanoria Cruz closes it out with 10.3. Marshall's points per game rank seventh in the SoCon and Oduah's eighth.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT CINCINNATI:
  • Cincinnati is on a two-game losing streak after dropping games to Ohio and Utah.
  • The Bearcats are 2-1 at home this season.
  • Western Carolina is the first of two SoCon schools Cincinnati will face this season. After meeting the Catamounts on Tuesday, the Bearcats will host Chattanooga Dec. 15.
  • Cincinnati has two players averaging in double figures led by Akira Levy's 13 points per game. Jillian Hayes is averaging 12 points per game.
