Catamounts Visit Regional Rival Gardner-Webb for Saturday Matinee

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina men's basketball team concludes a six-game road trip on Saturday as the Catamounts visit Gardner-Webb for a 2 p.m. tip-off inside Paul Porter Arena.
 
Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live audio available on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 1:30 p.m. Free live stats will also be available via a link on catamountsports.com.
 
WCU is 3-3 after winning two of three games at the Jerome Kersey Classic in Farmville, Va. last weekend. After dropping its opening game of the tournament 91-75 on Friday to UMBC, the Catamounts held on to defeat American University 80-79 on Saturday before knocking off tournament host Longwood 64-53 on Sunday afternoon. Graduate student Nicholas Robinson leads the team with an average of 15.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Robinson is joined by junior Travion McCray, who is averaging 11.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
 
Gardner-Webb brings a 2-3 record after a 90-78 win over Columbia International on Wednesday. D'Maurian Williams led three Runnin' Bulldogs in double figures with 27 points followed by an 18-point effort from Kareem Reid and 15 points from Lance Terry. That trio is also averaging double figures this season led by Reid's 14.8 points per game with Terry and Williams both scoring an average of 14.2 points per game.
 
The Catamounts and Runnin' Bulldogs meet for the 15th time with Gardner-Webb holding an 8-6 advantage. Saturday's game is the seventh meeting between the schools as Division I members with the Runnin' Bulldogs claiming four of the first six matchups. WCU won the previous meeting 71-59 in the 2019-20 home opener.
 
WCU returns to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center on Wednesday, Dec. 1, hosting Warren Wilson at 5 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team.
