McNally Makes History; Named to United Soccer Coaches Southeast All-Region Team

Earns a spot on third team

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Graduate Natalie McNally made history this week becoming the first Western Carolina women's soccer player to be named to the United Soccer Coaches Association's Southeast All-Region third team.

"We are very proud of Natalie and very glad she has received the recognition she has earned," said Head Coach Chad Miller. "She came in this fall and really bought into our program from day one and really was a big piece of our culture within the group. Natalie embraced our young players and had a huge impact on them that will carry over in the years to come. She is a true leader and showed up every day as a true professional. We are very proud of her and glad she came to WCU to finish out her remarkable career."

McNally, a defender from Grayslake, Ill., is one of five players from the Southern Conference to be honored. She joins Furman's Nieva Gaither and Samford's Kayla Gaza on the second team and a pair of third teamers in Alyssa Frazier and Taylor Yount from Samford.

This is McNally's second United Soccer Coaches Association All-Region honor. She was named to the 2020 All-North Second team while at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in her senior campaign.

A First Team All-Southern Conference selection, McNally was part of a Catamount defensive backline that recorded nine shutouts on the season which is tied for third-most in program history. She was a huge part of the WCU defense that shut out the high-powered UNCG offense, in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Championship, to earn a spot in the semi-finals.

McNally played and started in all 20 matches and scored two goals ending the season with four points.

She was named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District First team and is eligible for a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-American list which will be announced on Dec. 10.
