Women's Basketball Opens 2021-22 Season at Home Tuesday

First four games of the season at home

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball opens the 2021-22 season Tuesday hosting Emory & Henry at 4 p.m. Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. The contest is the front end of a doubleheader with men's basketball who will open their season hosting Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Catamount Sports Network.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • A total of 10 players are returning from the 2020-21 team, including four starters. 
  • The Catamounts added four transfers to the squad bringing NCAA Division I and junior college experience in Madison Pack, Bailey Trumm, Endia Holliday, and Vanessa Oduah. 
  • The Catamounts were picked to finish eighth in the 2021 Southern Conference Coaches' preseason poll.
  • Along with seven newcomers for the upcoming season, the Catamounts have two new faces on the coaching side with Associate Head Coach Kendra Samuels-Eaton and Director of Basketball Operations Darryln McDonough. 
  • Western Carolina found some momentum in the 2020-21 season. Under Head Coach Kiley Hill's direction, the Catamounts had the most SoCon wins (three), and the highest seed in the tournament (7th) since the 2016-17 season. The 2020-21 club also won the most games since 2016-17 with six.
  • This will be the first meeting between Western Carolina and Emory & Henry.
  • Since the 1976-77 season Western Carolina is 22-22 in season openers and 28-16 in home openers.
  • Western Carolina's first four games of the season are at home.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT EMORY & HENRY:
  • The meeting with the Catamounts will be Emory & Henry's second consecutive exhibition match with an NCAA Division I opponent. The Wasps dropped a 93-37 decision to Radford Nov. 4. Grace Glance came off the bench to lead Emory & Henry with seven points.
  • In a truncated schedule from the 2020-21 season Emory & Henry ended the season 6-8.
 
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
  • Doors open at 3 pm – for women's basketball and will remain open through the men's basketball game.
  • Parking is free, there are several parking lots near the Ramsey Center in which you can park as well as the new parking deck off Forest Hills Road.
  • Fans may enter the arena at the NW Entrance, SE Entrance (ADA Entrance) or the Truck Tunnel.
  • Women's basketball tickets will be on sale until halftime of the women's game.
  • Face coverings are required in the Ramsey Center except when eating or drinking.
  • Clear Bag Policy – Catamount Basketball will have a Clear Bag Policy this season.
  • No outside food or beverages may be brought into the Ramsey Center.
  • Beer, wine and hard seltzers are available in the concourse. You must be 21 and can only purchase one drink per person at the time of the transaction. You will be required to provide a valid ID at each alcohol purchase.  Alcohol sales end with 10 minutes remaining in the second half of each game. Drinks may not leave the arena.
  • Those who purchased season tickets may pick-up their season tickets at the main ticket office through halftime. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase season tickets at the main ticket office through halftime. For those that need to pick-up their season tickets you are encouraged to arrive early.
  • Women's basketball tickets are $6; men's basketball tickets start at just $11 for adults and $6 for youth 12 and under. Kids 2 years and under get in free.

  • WCU fee paying students receive free admission to all home WCU athletic events! Just show your Cat Card at the NW Entrance.
  • WCU students are encouraged to sit in the Cat Cage student section – QR.
