Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina Athletics and the Southern Conference today announced a pair of changes in the upcoming Catamount men's basketball schedule.
The league-opening home game against UNCG scheduled for this Wednesday, Dec. 29 and the Saturday, Jan. 1, conference road match-up against mountain-rival ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., have both been postponed due to positive COVID tests and quarantine requirements.
Tickets for Wednesday's postponed match-up with UNCG in Cullowhee will be honored at the rescheduled date.
The SoCon additionally announced Monday that it is
modifying its COVID-19 rescheduling policies for men's and women's basketball games for the 2021-22 season. The league's 10 directors of athletics voted unanimously to replace the previously announced policy, which called for a forfeit if a team could not play due to COVID-related issues, with one that results in a "no contest" instead. The conference office will attempt to reschedule affected games at the earliest availability.
Western Carolina (6-7) is slated to return to action in opening its SoCon schedule next Wednesday, Jan. 5 against The Citadel Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. For ticket information, visit
