CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina goes in search of its second straight win on Saturday as the Catamounts head to Spartanburg, S.C. for a 6 p.m. matchup against USC Upstate inside of Eddie and Ann Payne Arena at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required) with Catamount Sports Network audio coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. Free live stats will also be available via a link on catamountsports.com.
Western Carolina is 4-4 thanks to a 102-47 triumph over Warren Wilson in Cullowhee on Wednesday. The Catamounts tallied 18 3-pointers and 63 rebounds in the win, which both rank second in a single game in program history in those categories.
Marvin Price led six players in double figures with 17 points.
Marlow Gilmore grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds.
USC Upstate is 2-5 after a 67-65 home loss to NC Central on Wednesday. Bryson Mozone led the Spartans with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Josh Aldrich with 11 points. In addition to their setback against the Eagles, USC Upstate has losses to Southern Conference foes ETSU and Furman, as well as South Carolina and Charlotte. Their two wins have come against St. Andrews and South Carolina State.
Despite being separated by just 105 miles, Saturday's game is only the second all-time meeting between the schools and the first to occur on either team's home court. The lone meeting came on Nov. 23, 2013 in Kent, Ohio as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic with the Spartans earning a 72-58 victory.
The Catamounts are home for a pair of games next week, facing Tennessee Tech on Wednesday (Dec. 8) at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 11) matinee against mountain rival UNC Asheville. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required) with Catamount Sports Network coverage beginning 30 minutes before tip-off.
