Catamounts Begin Two-Game Road Swing at Winthrop Saturday

Looking to bounce back

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball begins a two-game road swing Saturday traveling to Winthrop for a 2 p.m. tip-off. After the contest with the Eagles the Catamounts will travel to Campbell Monday.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Winthrop meet for the 44th time dating back to the two team's first meeting on Feb. 10, 1967. The Catamounts hold an overall record of 31-12 over the Eagles with Winthrop winning the last meeting 63-60 on Dec. 21, 2021. The Catamounts have five of the last six meetings and are 11-2 at Winthrop. In the last meeting in Rock Hill, S.C., Dec. 21, 2018, WCU won 65-57. 
  • Four of Western Carolina's first eight games, on the season, has been against Big South opponents and are 2-2 against the team in that conference. WCU will face two more Big South teams this weekend, at Winthrop and Campbell. 
  • Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall has scored in double figures in the last three games – all three games she scored 15 points and averaged 15 points per game. 
  • The Catamounts are averaging 39.4 rebounds per game and holding opponents to 28 per contest. WCU has a total of 315 rebounds on the season which ranks 35th in the NCAA. The Catamounts also rank 23rd in the nation with an 11.4 rebounding margin. 
  • Junior Endia Holliday ranks eighth in the NCAA shooting 95 percent from the free-throw line (19-of-20).
  • Marshall leads the Catamounts averaging 13 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT WINTHROP:
  • Winthrop is searching for its first win of the season coming into Saturday's game with WCU 0-7. 
  • The Eagles have scored under 50 points in all seven games this season. The Catamounts are giving up 56 points per game to opponents.
  • This is the second Southern Conference school Winthrop faces this season as the Eagles dropped a 69-39 game against UNCG on Nov. 18. 
  • J'Mani Ingram leads the Eagles averaging 10 points per game.
