CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball looks for its fourth straight win at McKenzie Arena on Wednesday as the Catamounts head to Chattanooga for a 7 p.m. contest with the Mocs. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required) with audio coverage on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m.
WCU is 9-12 overall and 2-10 in the Southern Conference following an 88-70 road loss at Furman on Saturday. Sophomore post
Xavier Cork led five Catamounts in double figures with 15 points.
Kameron Gibson had a season-high 13 points, scoring 10 points in the first half.
Chattanooga is 17-5 overall and 8-5 in the SoCon after a 53-51 home triumph over ETSU on Monday night, completing the two-game seasonal sweep of their in-state rival. A.J. Caldwell led three players in double figures with 11 points followed by KC Hankton and Malachi Smith with 10 each.
Wednesday's game is the 97
th all-time meeting between the schools with Chattanooga holding a 67-29 advantage in the series after a 74-67 win in Cullowhee on Feb. 3. In that first meeting, which halted WCU's three-game series win streak, the Catamounts put all five starters in double figures including a team-best 18 by Cork, but 16 turnovers led to 21 Chattanooga points. Smith paced UTC with a game-high 22 points, one of four Mocs in double figures.
Additionally, the WCU Athletics Department announced that the rescheduled contest between the Catamounts and UNCG on Monday, Feb. 22 will tip-off at 5 p.m. with coverage on the Catamount Sports Network (4:30 p.m.) and ESPN+.
