Women's Basketball Travels to Furman

Catamounts looking to bounce back

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball travels to Furman on Feb. 19 and Feb. 21 to tackle the Paladins as the race for Southern Conference Tournament seeding winds down. The Catamounts will face the Paladins at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Chattanooga meet for the 86th and 87th times this week. Furman has won the last six meetings and nine of the last 10. The Catamount's last win against the Paladins was a 75-72 overtime victory in Cullowhee on Feb. 2, 2017. Western Carolina is currently 10-25 at Furman. The two teams first met on Feb. 21, 1970, with the Catamounts winning 42-32.
  • Redshirt junior Kyla Allison has scored 20 or more points on the season twice when she scored 23 points against Chattanooga on Feb. 13. She leads the team scoring in double figures nine times this season. She currently leads the team 10.9 points per game and shooting 42.4 percent from the field.
  • In the eight games redshirt sophomore Nadia Marshall has started, she has scored double figures in five of those games and scored 20 or more points twice. In those eight games, she scored a career-high 26 points against Mercer. Those 26 points are the most points scored by a Catamount this season. She is currently averaging 10.6 points and eight points per game.
  • Western Carolina is looking for its third SoCon win of the season. Should WCU reach that third win, it will be the first time the Catamounts have had three conference wins since winning three in the 2016-17 season.
 
  AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE PALADINS:
  • Furman is coming off a pair of losses to UNCG. In the second game on Saturday, Feb. 13, the Spartans just edged the Paladins 58-50.
  • The Paladins are 3 and 2 over the last five games.
  • Tierra Hodges leads Furman averaging 16.7 points per game. She is followed by Sydney James who is averaging 10.4 points per game.
