With the loss...
  • Represents Western Carolina's fifth-straight defeat dating back to last season;
  • Is WCU's fifth-straight loss to Furman in the head-to-head series, relegating the Catamounts to 12-34-2 overall and 6-18-1 in games played in Greenville, S.C.;
  • WCU dropped its 13th game in the last 15 meetings with the Paladins in the series.
 Post-Game Notes
  • Western Carolina's defense came away with three interceptions in Saturday's road loss at Furman giving the Catamounts a combined 12 takeaways on the season – six interceptions and six fumbles … Jacob Harris, Curtis Roach, and Rod Gattison each recorded their first career interception in a Catamount uniform;
  •  In the absence of punter Brandon Dickerson, freshman Paxton Robertson punted a career-best eight times for 344 yards, averaging 43.0 yards per punt including a career-long of 55 yards … Robertson dropped five of his eight punts inside the Paladin 20-yard line … Robertson also kicked off twice;
  • Graduate transfer quarterback Ryan Glover made his WCU debut at Furman, completing 7-of-14 passes to seven different receivers … He also rushed for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter – just the second rushing score of the 2020-21 season for the Catamounts, both coming from quarterbacks (Mark Wright rushed for a 3-yard score at Liberty); 
  • Glover's first-quarter rushing touchdown represented WCU's first points on its opening possession this season ... WCU went 0-for-3 in the fall portion of the schedule on its first drive of a game -- missing a field goal at Liberty and punting at both EKU and North Carolina the first time the offense touched the football;
  • WCU's offense was limited to 109 yards of total offense – 67 yards on the ground and 42 yards through the air – and just five first downs;
  •  Senior LB Ty Harris posted the 10th double-digit tackle performance of his career finishing with 10 tackles … Junior S A.J. Rogers finished with a career-best 11 tackles to lead the Catamount defense with defensive back Jacob Harris adding 10 tackles including a sack and an interception for the WCU defense;  
  • Catamount defenders also recording career-highs in tackles on Saturday were LB Willie Hampton (8 tackles), Roman Johnson (7 tackles), Micah Nelson (7 tackles), Darrius Bell (6 tackles), Rod Gattison (5 tackles), Laquavion Haynes (5 tackles), Timothy Jamison (5 tackles) and Dorian Davis (4 tackles);
 
Miscellaneous Notes
  • WCU's captain for the game was senior OL #51 Matthew Bair, a native of Anderson, S.C. … the Catamounts won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the second half;
  •  Senior OL #52 Grady Thomas of Spartanburg, S.C., carried the United States flag in the pregame run-out while junior DB #38 Jacob Harris carried the "All You Got" flag.
