Soccer Travels to Liberty Thursday

Final nonconference match of the season

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer plays its final nonconference, and first road match, of the season when the Catamounts travel to Liberty Thursday for a 6 p.m. kick-off at Osborne Stadium.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:

Western Carolina and Liberty meet for the third time in the two program's history. The two teams first met in 1999 with WCU winning 2-1 in Cullowhee. In Lynchburg, on Sept. 22, 2003, Western Carolina took a 2-1 victory back to Cullowhee.
Western Carolina went 1-1 last week to open the spring 2021 season. The Catamounts won their home opener 1-0 in overtime against Charlotte and dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 to Davidson.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melody Mezzina was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The Canadian amassed 11 saves, a shutout, and 0.49 goals-against average, allowing just one goal in two contests on the week.
Senior Maryanne Kilgore scored the first golden goal of her career in the Catamounts' 1-0 overtime win against Charlotte. It was the first win over the 49ers in the program's history.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE FLAMES:

It will be 494 days since Liberty last played a home match.
Melody Jayroe was named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
In Liberty's first three games of the season, the Lady Flames have played 11 freshmen.
