AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Mercer for the 20th and 21st time on Thursday and Saturday. The Catamounts earned their first-ever victory over the Bears last season defeating 51-40 on Feb. 1, 2020. Before that victory, Mercer had won 17-straight over WCU. Mercer got revenge in Macon a few weeks, on Feb. 27 later defeating the Catamounts 60-54. Western Carolina is 1-7 at home against the Bears and is 1-9 against Mercer in the last 10 meetings.
  • With the pair of games postponed at ETSU on Jan. 29 and 31st, due to the Buccaneers' positive COVID-19 tests, the Catamounts enter the games with Mercer after being off for eight days.
  • The Catamounts posted a 4-3 record in January ... The four victories in the month were the most by WCU since winning five back in January 2009.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nadia Marshall has started in the last four games. In three of the four games, she has scored in double figures as well as double figures in the last three games. She notched her second double-double of the season, 12 points and 11 rebounds, in the win over South Carolina State. In the last four games, Marshall is averaging 10.5 points and 8.75 rebounds per game.
  • Western Carolina is on a two-game winning streak - the second time this season WCU has won consecutive games.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE BEARS:
  • Mercer had its five-game winning streak snapped Jan. 30 with a 69-60 loss at Chattanooga. The loss drops the Bears into second place in the SoCon standings with a 5-2 record.
  • The Bears have four players averaging double-figure scoring: Jaron Dougherty (16.7), Amoria 1 Neal-Tysor (16.1), Jada Lewis (12.9), Shannon Titus (11.8).
