CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball returns to the friendly confines of the Ramsey Regional Activity Center on Wednesday night as the Catamounts welcome VMI for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
Wednesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+
(paid subscription required) with live audio available on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m.
WCU enters the game with an 8-11 overall mark and a 1-9 league record following a 74-63 setback at The Citadel on Saturday. Senior
Matt Halvorsen set the program record for made 3-pointers made thanks to a pair of 3's in the road effort. Halvorsen tied former WCU standout Jake Robinson's record of 278 early in the first half and wrote his name into the record books with a 3-pointer with 5:40 remaining in regulation. Redshirt senior
Mason Faulkner, who is ninth in the SoCon in scoring average, scored a team-best 18 points followed by junior
Cory Hightower with 17. Hightower and junior
Kameron Gibson both grabbed eight rebounds, a career-high for Gibson.
VMI is 10-9 overall and 5-5 in league games to stand tied for fifth overall after an 84-80 overtime win at league-leading Wofford on Feb. 3. Greg Parham and Jake Stephens both scored 22 points in the victory. Earlier on Tuesday, Stephens was named the SoCon Player of the Week presented by GEICO in recognition of his efforts. Parham, who is second in the SoCon in scoring, and Stephens – fifth in the league in rebounding average – have received three of the last four weekly honors from the SoCon office. The Keydets were idle last weekend.
Wednesday's meeting is the 64
th all-time matchup with WCU holding a 35-28 lead. The Keydets won the first matchup of the season 87-61 in Lexington, Va. on Jan. 27.
Both VMI and WCU will wear gold shoelaces on Wednesday evening as part of the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® program to show their support in the fight against pediatric cancer.
WCU hits the road for the next two games beginning with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday at Furman. The game was originally slated for a Noon tip-off at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C., but was moved back to campus because of the pandemic. The broadcast will be streamed on ESPN+ (
