Catamounts Suffer First Loss of the Season at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis suffered a setback on Tuesday dropping its first match of the season falling 7-0 at Clemson at The Duckworth Family Tennis Center. 
 
 TURNING POINT:
 Clemson picked up the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles while No. 2 doubles was unfinished, and then went on to sweep all six singles matches.  
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were both tight matches until Clemson pulled ahead and won the final three points at No. 3 doubles and secure the doubles point. No. 2 doubles was halted at 4-4. 
  • Freshman Kata Foldeak suffered her first singles loss of the season falling to Jenna Thompson 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.   
  • Antonella Benavides had a close match at No. 5 singles before falling to the Tigers Makayla Mills 6-4, 7-5. 
 
 NOTES:
  • The match at Clemson was Western Carolina's first road match of the season. 
  • The road match at Clemson is the first of four consecutive road matches for the Catamounts. 
 
UPCOMING:
 Western Carolina will be back in action Saturday at Appalachian State. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. There will be live stats of the match which can be found here - http://statb.us/b/333811.
