Tennis Hosts Presbyterian and North Dakota

Catamounts look to build momentum at home

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis host a pair of matches over the next three days welcoming Presbyterian at 2 p.m. Saturday and North Dakota at 2 p.m. Monday at the Catamount Tennis Complex. 
 
NOTES ON CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina Presbyterian meet for the 17th time on Saturday with the Blue Hose leading the series 11-4-1. The Catamounts have lost the last two meetings 3-4 and in the match on Feb. 22, 2014, the contest ended in a 3-3 tie as neither team could field a participant at No. 6 singles. 
  • The Catamounts and North Dakota meet for the first time. 
  • Western Carolina is coming off a 5-2 win at North Carolina Central and has won two of its last three matches. 
  • Antonella Benavides leads the Catamounts in singles play with seven wins with an overall record of 7-4. She has won four of her last five singles matches. 
  • In doubles play, freshman Kata Foldeak and junior Jacy Smith have four wins at No. 1 doubles.
  • Smith has 23 career singles wins ranking tied for 11th in the WCU record books and moves into a tie for 10th place with her next victory. 
 
 
NOTES ON OPPONENTS:
  • Presbyterian enters the match Saturday with a record of 3-9 after getting a 4-3 win over Gardner-Webb Wednesday. The Blue Hose are 2-0 in Big South play with a win over Longwood as well. Presbyterian has played three SoCon teams, Chattanooga, Furman, and Wofford, falling to all three. 
  • North Dakota is 3-6 entering its match at Oral Roberts on Saturday. The Fighting Hawks will continue its swing through the South with the Catamounts Monday, Montreat Tuesday, Gardner-Webb Thursday, and Presbyterian on Friday.
