Turning Point
Western Carolina scored five unanswered runs, powered by a grand-slam, and a solo home run, to hold onto the lead despite Winthrop's late-inning four-run rally.

How it Happened
  • After two scoreless innings, Western Carolina scored the first run of the game in the top of the third. Lindsay Perillo drew a walk to lead off the inning and came around to score from an RBI single through the left side by Twitty.
  • The Catamounts monster inning came in the fourth inning. Amber Parker set it all up leading off with a double to left field and WCU loaded the bases with back-to-back one-out walks by Claudia Riddle and Perillo. With two outs, Kailey McNeil smacked a grand-slam as WCU scored four runs to lead 5-0.
  • Winthrop cut into the Catamount lead with a pair of runs off a two-RBI home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Perillo helped the Catamounts get one of its runs back with a lead-off solo home run in the sixth to push the WCU lead back to four, 6-2.
  • Things got interesting in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Eagles' second two-RBI home run of the game slicing the Catamount lead in half, 6-4.
  • The Catamounts halted Winthrop's idea of a rally sitting the Eagles down in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
