Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina's home football game against Chattanooga slated for Saturday, April 3 has been canceled as UTC announced Monday that it is opting out of the remainder of the 2021 spring FCS football season.
UTC's decision was made with the health and safety of the entire program as the focus and due to COVID-19 opt-outs, that made it impossible to field the required number of student-athletes in key position groups to meet Southern Conference regulations. From a statement released by the Southern Conference, the league supports Chattanooga's decision to discontinue the 2020-21 football season and the Mocs' remaining scheduled games will be recorded as no-contests.
Please note, fans who have already purchased tickets through Western Carolina will be directly contacted by the WCU Ticket Office to discuss options.
The Catamounts are now scheduled to conclude the 2021 spring season on Saturday, April 10 by hosting the Wofford Terriers at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field in Cullowhee with a 2 p.m. kickoff. The game has been selected in the wildcard weekend for the Ingles SoCon Game of the Week package and will be broadcast on select Nexstar affiliates and simulcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
