Softball Travels to Radford Friday

Will have a small break after pair of games at Highlanders

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina softball travels to Radford Friday for a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Radford Softball Stadium.

 AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Radford meet for the 14th and 15th times on Friday. The Highlanders have won the last three meetings including the doubleheader in Cullowhee Mar. 11, 2020 – which turned out to be the final games of the season for the Catamounts as the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Catamount's last win over Radford came on April 24, 2109, at the Highlander's home field defeating them 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. Overall, WCU is 1-3 at Radford. 
  • Western Carolina is coming off a 6-4 win over Longwood that halted a nine-game losing streak. The Catamounts win over the Lancers was a huge victory for WCU as Longwood knocked off then ranked No. 16 Georgia 3-2, Feb. 20.
  • Sophomore Anna-Paige Pelfrey is on a 10-game hitting streak. She also leads the team with a .393 batting average and tops the team with 11 hits.
  • Junior Bailey Huneycutt is tied with Pelfrey for hits with 11 and just below her in batting average at .355.
  • Huneycutt and senior Kailey McNeil each have two home runs and six RBI. 
  • Sophomore hurler Jayme Eilers leads the Catamounts and the Southern Conference with 36 strikeouts on the season. 
  • Freshman Caitlin Griffin has tossed 4.1 innings of relief and has not allowed an earned run giving up seven hits. 
 
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS:
  • Radford is 2-8 and coming off a loss to Liberty 8-1. The Highlanders had its pair of games with George Mason canceled on Feb. 28. Radford's pair of wins was a doubleheader sweep of Norfolk State. 
  • Sydney Fisher leads Radford with a .308 batting average with eight hits. 
  • Pitcher Jessie Marvin has tossed 28.1 innings striking out 12 with a 3.71 ERA and a 1-4 record. 
  • The doubleheader with Western Carolina is Radford's home opener.
