CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina softball hosts Samford Friday and Saturday to open its home portion of Southern Conference play. The Catamounts will face the Bulldogs in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Friday and an 11 a.m. single game Saturday. All three contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
- Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 37th, 38th, 39th time this weekend. The series is tied 18-18 with WCU winning the last meeting in the 2019 SoCon Championship 6-4 knocking off the No. 2 seed Bulldogs as the No. 7 seed. In the tournament win, WCU scored five unanswered runs for the comeback win. The Catamounts are 11-7 at home against Samford and have won four series against the Bulldogs.Â
- The Catamounts are on their longest winning streak of the season - winning the last three games. WCU has also won three of its last five.Â
- Junior Bailey Huneycutt leads the team with a .359 batting, ranking seventh in the SoCon, average, and also tops the team with 23 hits. She also ranks third with 14 RBI.Â
- Sophomore pitcher Savannah Rice was the pitcher of record in both wins against Radford. She came in in the top of the seventh getting the final out and WCU rallied to win with a walk-off RBI single by Bailey Huneycutt. She tossed the complete game for the win in game two with the Highlanders.Â
- In the last 10 games, Western Carolina is 5-5. Bailey Huneycutt is hitting .321 over the last 10 games with nine hits, a double, two home runs, and six RBI. In the pitching circle, Savannah Rice leads the pitching staff with a 3-3 record and 23 strikeouts.Â

AN INSIDE LOOK AT SAMFORD:
- Samford is coming off a series win over Mercer to open SoCon play taking two of three games from the Bears.Â
- The Bulldogs swept the SoCon weekly awards as Whitney Hinton earned Player of the Week honors and Emily Barnett was tabbed Pitcher of the Week.Â
- Amanda Briskin leads the Bulldogs with a .347 batting average with 25 hits, 13 runs scored, three doubles, and three RBI.Â
