Tennis Hosts Samford in Final Home Match

Catamounts set to play first of three final regular season matches

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis hosts its final home match of the season welcoming Samford for a 12:30 p.m. match at the Catamount Tennis Complex.

The Catamounts are coming off a dramatic 4-3 win over Chattanooga on April 9 for their first Southern Conference victory of the season. With the match tied 3-3, freshman Kata Foldeak won in three sets at No. 1 singles to secure the match.

Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 13th time on Wednesday with the Bulldogs holding an 11-1 leverage over the Catamounts. WCU's lone win came in 2019 when the Catamounts won 4-3 when then-freshman Julia Pezzuco won a three-set match at No. 6 singles.

Freshman Antonella Benavides leads the Catamounts in singles wins with 10 with the majority at No. 5 singles. Her 10 singles wins this season ranks her tied for 16th in the Catamount record books for most singles victories in a season.

In doubles play, junior Jacy Smith paces the team with eight victories four each with partners Foldeak and Pezzuco.

After the home match with Samford, Western Carolina will complete the regular season on the road traveling to Wofford on Saturday and Mercer on Sunday.
