Tennis Falls to Samford in Final Home Match of the Season

Catamounts win doubles point

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis dropped its final home match of the season, 6-1, to visiting Samford Wednesday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
 
 
TURNING POINT:
Samford swept all six singles matches to secure the conference win.
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Western Carolina took the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
  • After Jacy Smith and Julia Pezzuco sailed through their No. 1 doubles match, 6-4, the final two matches went down to the wire.
  • Anna Uljanov and Kata Foldeak battled it out at No. 2 doubles winning in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) to secure the doubles point.
  • Antonella Benavides and Emily Elliott fell in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles, 6-7 (5-7).
  • Elliott had a real knock-down drag-out at No. 6 singles. After winning the first set, 6-3, she dropped the second set 5-7 (8-10) and the tiebreaker 13-11.
 NOTES:
  • Western Carolina ends the season 7-3 at home. 
  • Western Carolina's final two matches of the season are on the road.
  • Smith earned her 28th career win in doubles which ranks her fifth in the WCU record books.
