Antonella Benavides recorded her team-leading 11th win in singles as Western Carolina women's tennis closed out the 2021 season with a 5-2 loss at Mercer Sunday at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Mercer swept the doubles point and went on to take four of the six singles matches.Â

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Mercer was up 2-0 after taking the doubles points and winning at No. 6 but Western Carolina cut the lead to 2-1 with Benavides' 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.Â
- The Bears clinched the match with a win at No. 2 singles.
- The Catamounts picked up their second singles win at No. 1 singles with freshman Kata Foldeak's three-set victory, 6-2, 6-7,6-3 win over the Bears' Maeva Roquebert.Â

NOTES:
- Benavides' 11 wins in singles play move her into a tie for 11th place in the Catamount record books for singles victories in a season. It is the second-straight year, in a complete season, a Catamount freshman has recorded double-digit wins in singles. Jacy Smith tied the school record as a freshman in 2019 when she had 16 victories in singles play.Â
- Foldeak ends the year with nine wins in singles play as she and fellow rookie Benavidies combined for 20 wins in singles play on the year.Â
