Western Carolina 3, N.C. A&T 0

Turning Point
Western Carolina scored three runs over six innings and rode the arm of Eiler's no-hitter.

How it Happened
  • The Catamounts scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Rookie Morgan Maddaluna led off the inning with a walk and stole second. A ground out by Lindsay Perillo moved Maddaluna to third and she scored on an RBI single to left field by Bailey Huneycutt. After Huneycutt stole second she scored off an RBI single to the right side by Myra Twitty
  • After being held scoreless for the next four innings, the Catamounts tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth. WCU drew three walks to open the inning, as Maddaluna was erased at second after she was caught steal. Perillo and Huneycutt then drew walks and after Perillo stole third she scored off a sacrifice fly to centerfield and earning Kailey McNeil an RBI.

 Inside the Box Score
  • Eilers had a perfect game through five innings before yielding a walk to open the sixth. She walked Jocelyn Bennett but still faced the minimum of 21 batters as Bennett was caught stealing. Western Carolina 9, N.C. A&T 1 (6 innings)

Turning Point
The Catamounts exploded for five runs in the first inning and worked around three errors in the field.

How it Happened
  • In the weirdest set of circumstances, Western Carolina had two errors to open the game and still got out of the first inning without allowing a run. The Aggies opened the game with back-to-back singles by Latianna Langley and Alyxx Estrada and had runners at second on third after an error with no outs. McCauley came up and reached on a fielder's choice moving to second and as Estrada went to third Langley was out at home. As the play continued, the Catamounts tried to get the runner out at third but the throw was off and as Estrada tried to go home she was out at home. A ground out, with McCauley at third, ended the inning.
  • After Western Carolina escaped a scoring threat by the Aggies in the top of the first, the Catamounts scored five runs in the bottom of the frame.
  • Claudia Riddle led off the Catamounts' first inning beating out a single to second base. Perillo lays down a beauty of a bunt single pushing Riddle to second. Huneycutt hit a monster home run to left field for the three-run long ball collecting three RBI. Myra Twitty kept things going from a single to right-center. In a wild play, Savannah Baldwin hit a double to left-center as Twitty moved to third. The Aggies tried to catch Twitty in a pick-off move at third but a N.C. A&T error allowed Twitty to score when the throw was errant. It also moved Baldwin to third and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeralynn Wells
  • North Carolina A&T scored its only run of the doubleheader in the third inning on a ground-out RBI by Kendall McCauley.
  • The Catamounts got the run back in the bottom of the third. McNeil led off the inning with a double moving to third on a Twitty ground out. McNeil scored on a sacrifice bunt RBI by Baldwin.
  • McNeil led off an inning with a double for the second time in the fifth. Again, Twitty ground out to move McNeil to third and scored from Baldwin's RBI single past third base.
  • The Catamounts cut the game to six innings scoring the eighth and ninth run of the game. Riddle reached first on an Aggie error with one out, stole second, and moved to their on North Carolina A&T's second error of the inning. A sacrifice fly RBI by Perillo scored Riddle. Huneycutt's solo home run to centerfield was the ninth and game-ending run.
