GREENSBORO, N.C. – With Western Carolina's 5-0 loss at UNCG Sunday the Catamounts earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Championship to be held on the Spartan's UNCG Softball Field May 13-15.

News & Notes
  • The No. 2 seed is the second-highest for the Catamounts in program history. The 2006 inaugural team entered that year's championship as the No. 1 seed. Prior to this years' No. 2 seed, the Catamounts' second highest was a No. 3 seed in 2006.
  • This is a huge accomplishment for a Catamount squad that was picked to finish seventh besting its pre-season prognostication by five spots.
  • Western Carolina's 12 wins in conference play is the second-most in program history only behind the 2006 team's 16 wins.
  • With the three-straight losses to UNCG, Western Carolina was swept in a conference series for the first time this season.
  • Jayme Eilers ends the regular season with 156 strikeouts on the season which ranks 7th in the WCU record books.

Turning Point
UNCG used a three home runs to build a lead Western Carolina could not overcome.

How it Happened
  • UNCG hit a two-run home run in the second and a pair of home runs in the third.
  • The Spartans tacked on a fifth run for good measure with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

 Inside the Box Score
  • Sophomore hurler Eilers had a complete game and takes the loss. She falls to 12-12 on the year.
  • The Catamounts had only two hits in the game.
  • UNCG had just three hits but all three were home runs.
