AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina opened the first week of the season 1-1 falling to North Florida 4-1 before bouncing back to defeat UNC Asheville 2-1.
  • Graduate senior Maryanne Kilgore led the team with a goal against North Florida and an assist on the game-winning goal by Natalie McNally in the victory over the Bulldogs.
  • Senior goalkeeper Ashlee Owens earned her first victory in goal with the victory over UNCA.
  • Rookie Kirsten Hahn scored her first goal as a Catamount in the match against UNCA.
  • Western Carolina and Duke meet for only the second time in the two teams' history. The Blue Devils won the lone meeting 1-0 in 2006 scoring in the 22nd minute as WCU held Duke scoreless the remainder of the match.
  • The Catamounts and Gardner-Webb meet for the ninth time on Sunday. WCU is undefeated against the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 5-0 record at home and 3-0 at Gardner-Webb. Western Carolina has shut out Gardner-Webb five times and allowed the Runnin' Bulldogs to score a goal in three of the eight contests. In the first meeting in 2001, WCU defeated Gardner-Webb 2-1 in double overtime.

 AN INSIDE LOOK AT OPPONENTS:
  • Duke climbed a spot from No. 6, in the preseason poll, to No. 5 in the first official poll of the season.
  • The Blue Devils opened the 2021 fall season 2-0 defeating Arkansas 3-1 and Washington 2-1. Mackenzie Pluck and Michelle Cooper have each scored two goals.
  • Gardner-Webb opened the season with a pair of 3-1 losses to Davidson and The Citadel – both future opponents of Western Carolina.
  • Before facing the Catamounts, the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on Charlotte Thursday.
