AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina closed out its first two-match road series of the season 1-1 falling to No. 5 Duke 6-0 before bouncing back to defeat Gardner-Webb 3-0.
  • The blanking of Gardner-Webb was the Catamounts' first shutout of the season. The three goals against the Bulldogs were a season-high for WCU.
  • The contest against the Runnin' Bulldogs saw the return of junior goalkeeper Melody Mezzina inside the pipes after missing the first three matches of the season due to injury. She went the full 90 minutes to earn her first shutout of the season and ninth of her career.
  • The Catamounts are now 2-0 this season after a loss.
  • Graduate transfer Valentine Pursey and junior Payton Creed each scored their first goals of the season against Gardner-Webb.
  • Freshman Kirsten Hahn scored her second goal of the season against Gardner-Webb. It was her second goal in the last three matches.
  • Western Carolina faces former Southern Conference foe Davidson Thursday. The two teams meet for the 19th time with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 11-6-1. In the contest earlier in the year, on Feb. 21, 2021, Davidson defeated the Catamounts 1-0. The Wildcats have won four of the last five meetings with WCU taking a 1-0 win at Davidson on Sept. 5, 2019.
  • On Sunday, WCU welcomes Longwood to Cullowhee. The two teams meet for the fourth time with WCU holding a 2-0-1 record over the Lancers. WCU has outscored Longwood 4-1 with a pair of shutouts at home (1-0, 2-0) and a tie in Farmville, Va. 1-1 on Aug. 29, 2014.

 AN INSIDE LOOK AT OPPONENTS:
  • Davidson shares Western Carolina's record, in the first four matches of the season, 2-2.
  • The Wildcats and WCU have one common opponent as Davidson opened the season with a 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb. Davidson also defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 before suffering through a two-match losing streak falling to Mt. St. Mary's (1-0) and Georgia State (2-0).
  • Longwood is still searching for its first victory of the season-opening in the fall of 2021 with an 0-4 record. The Lancers will face Howard Thursday before traveling to Cullowhee to face Western Carolina on Sunday.
  • The Lancers opened the season going up against a pair of the Catamounts' SoCon opponents in Wofford and Furman.
  • The Terriers defeated Longwood 2-1 in overtime and the next game the Paladins posted a 2-0 shutout followed by losses to American (1-2) and Richmond (1-0). Longwood has been outscored 7-2 in the first four matches of the year.
