Women's Basketball Announces 2021-22 Schedule

Catamounts boast 17 home games on Ingles Court

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – After a truncated 2020-21 season, head coach Kiley Hill announced Western Carolina women's basketball will be back to a full 29-game schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The Catamounts play at home a combined 17 times on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center including opening the season with four consecutive home dates beginning with Emory & Henry on Nov. 9. Following the home opener against the Wasps, WCU hosts mountain-rival UNC Asheville on Nov. 12, Presbyterian on Nov. 16, and Charleston Southern on Nov. 20.

"As we all work to get back to 'normal' and continue to provide a safe environment for everyone in 2021-22 season with our incredible fans in the stands and the amazing WCU 'Cat House Band' – Rockin' Ramsey", we could not be more excited to have the opportunity to compete seventeen times as home," said Hill.

WCU plays its first road contests of the season to conclude November, traveling to Cincinnati (Nov. 23) and Alabama (Nov. 26). Cincinnati finished 8-16 last season, falling in the second round of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship. Alabama received an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament defeating North Carolina in the first round (80-71), before falling to Maryland 100-64 in the second round.

The Catamounts also host Mars Hill (Nov. 29), USC Upstate (Dec. 1), Tennessee Tech (Dec. 9), Davidson (Dec. 20), and Montreat (Jan. 2) in nonconference play. The squad additionally steps out of league action on the road visiting Winthrop (Dec. 4), Campbell (Dec. 6), and South Carolina State (Dec. 12).

"As we continue to rebuild the program and increase the level of expectations, we needed to continue challenging ourselves," Hill said. "Our schedule consists of teams from several different conferences including the Big South, OVC, MEAC, A10, AAC, SEC, and of course the incredible SoCon league foes."

Western Carolina opens Southern Conference play on the road in the Upstate of South Carolina beginning on Jan. 6 traveling to Wofford and visiting Furman on Feb. 8. The Catamounts home SoCon opener is against Samford on Jan. 13 followed by Mercer on Jan. 15.

Other dates for home conference games include UNCG (Jan. 29), Furman (Feb. 3), Wofford (Feb. 5), ETSU (Feb. 17), and Chattanooga (Feb. 19).

"Our team and program know very well a journey is always better shared, so please mark your calendars now," said Hill. "We are looking forward to representing Catamount Nation with great effort and attitude in the season ahead."

The Ingles Southern Conference Tournament presented by General Shale is scheduled for March 3-6 at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville.
