CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw against visiting Longwood Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex. 
 
The Catamounts blasted the Lancers for 28 shots, and just missed scoring in the first overtime, as the match concluded in a physical and defensive battle. 
 
Individual Leaders:
  • Kirsten Hahn and Maggie Lloyd each had five shots in the match including just missing finding the back of the net. 
  • Junior Catamount goalkeeper Melody Mezzina earned her third-straight shutout of the season picking up five saves in the contest. 
  • Longwood goalie Jordan Horacek faced a barrage of Catamount offensive threats with 13 saves in the match. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Longwood's only true threat came in the first two-plus minutes of the match as the Lancers had two shots in staccato fashion as Mezzina turned them away with a pair of saves. 
  • Western Carolina had multiple chances to score with Horacek keeping them off the scoreboard with save after save. The Catamounts had shots just miss the back of the net or sail wide. 
  • In the first overtime, rookie Hahn had a shot just outside the line of the goal but Horacek poked it away in the final moment before it could go in. 
  • After four shots in the first half, Longwood had just five over the next 65 minutes through the second half and a pair of 10-minute overtimes. 
  • The Catamounts had a total of 24 shots in the first 90 minutes and four of the last 20. 
  • WCU also had eight corner kicks.
 
News & Notes:
  • Since Mezzina has returned to prowl the goal the Catamounts have not allowed a goal in the last 290 minutes – posting three consecutive shutouts. 
  • The shutout by Mezzina is the 11th of her career which ranks fourth in the WCU record books. Her career total of 85 saves ranks ninth. 
  • Longwood was shut out for the third time this season. 
  • The Catamounts played in their first overtime match of the season and also played to its first tie.

  • Western Carolina hosts Liberty at 7 p.m. Thursday. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
