AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina has recorded three shutouts over the last three matches with a record of 2-0-1.
  • Junior goalkeeper Melody Mezzina has not allowed a goal, in 290 minutes, since returning to the starting lineup against Gardner-Webb on Aug. 29.
  • Mezzina's three shutouts rank second in the Southern Conference. She also ranks first in save percentage (1.000).
  • The Catamounts played their first overtime match in the 0-0 double-overtime tie against visiting Longwood on Sept. 5.
  • It is a mixture of old and new in the leading goal scorers for Western Carolina. Graduate transfer Valentine Pursey and freshman Kirsten Hahn each lead the Catamounts with two goals on the season.
  • Western Carolina is 2-1 on the road having won its last two road matches.
  • Western Carolina and Liberty meet for the fourth time on Thursday. The Catamounts held a slim 2-1 lead over the Flames. Liberty won the last meeting, in Lynchburg, Va., on Feb. 25, 2021, with the Flames winning 1-0. WCU won the lone meeting in Cullowhee, in the Catamounts' inaugural season on Oct. 7, 1999, 2-1.
  • The match with Liberty is the second team from the A-Sun the Catamounts face this season. WCU opened the 2021 fall campaign with a 4-1 loss to North Florida.
  •  Western Carolina and UT Martin meet for the fifth time Sunday. WCU holds a 3-1 record over the Skyhawks. UT Martin's lone victory over the Catamounts was a 2-1 victory on the Skyhawks' field on Sept. 7, 2018. In the two teams' last meeting, in Cullowhee, on Sept. 1, 2018, the Catamounts outlasted UT Martin 5-4.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT OPPONENTS:
  • Liberty has won back-to-back games during the non-conference schedule for the first time since Sept. 22, 2019 (vs. VMI and James Madison) scoring more than one goal in back-to-back games for the first time in eight games. Liberty was picked 4th in the ASUN Preseason Coaches' poll.
  • UT Martin has a record of 4-1-1 to open the season and will have a week off before playing Western Carolina on Sunday riding a three-match winning streak.
  • The Skyhawks' Bella Roberts was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week scoring three goals in UT Martin's pair of wins last week.
