Catamounts Set to Host Samford Thursday

First of three consecutive home games

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball returns home Thursday, to the friendly confines of Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center, hosting Samford at 7 p.m. in Southern Conference action.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 30th time on Thursday. The Bulldogs have won the last 16 meetings dating back to Feb. 8, 2014. Samford is 13-2 in Cullowhee. Western Carolina's last win over Samford came on Feb. 20, 2012 with a 52-44 win. The two teams first met in 2009 the year Samford came into the SoCon.
  • Graduate student Madison Pack had a breakout game against Furman scoring a career-high 18 points and connecting on a career-best four three-pointers.
  • Nadia Marshall notched her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Furman. She leads the team averaging 11.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
  • As a team, the Catamounts rank second the SoCon in rebound margin outrebounding opponents by a margin of 6.6 per game. WCU leads the conference in rebounding defense at 30.6.
 
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT SAMFORD:
  • Samford is coming off a tough 71-69 loss against Chattanooga in double overtime Jan. 10. It is the first time they have lost their opening Southern Conference game since dropping a 76-68 decision to Mercer on Jan. 12, 2019.
  • The game against Chattanooga, Jan. 10, was the Bulldogs first game since Dec. 30 due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • Andrea Cournoyer leads the Bulldogs averaging 17.7 points per game.
