Catamounts Set to Host Mercer on a Doubleheader Saturday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball is set to host Mercer at 5 p.m. Saturday, in the second game of a doubleheader, on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. Catamount men's basketball tips off the doubleheader at 2 p.m. hosting Wofford.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Mercer meet for the 22nd time on Saturday. The Bears hold a record of 22-1 record over the Catamounts. Mercer has won the last four meetings and nine of the last 10. WCU's lone win over Mercer came under the direction of Head Coach Kiley Hill with the Catamounts winning 51-40 in Cullowhee on Feb. 1, 2020.
  • Western Carolina has hit 30 of its 63 three-pointers this season in the last five games.
  • Zanoria Cruz has scored in double figures in four of her last five games. In that five-game stretch, she is averaging 13.8 points per game.
  • As a team, the Catamounts rank second the SoCon in rebound margin outrebounding opponents by a margin of 5.8 per game. WCU leads the conference in rebounding defense at 31.2.
  •  As a team, Western Carolina ranks 43rd in the NCAA in total rebounds with 629.
  • WCU is 71st in the NCAA, and second in the SoCon, in total steals on the season with 137.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT MERCER:
  • Mercer is coming off a tough 66-60 road win at UNCG Jan. 13. It was the Bears first road conference win of the season.
  • The Bears have won three games in a row, which is the longest streak of the season.
  • Mercer has won their first two league games for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign and the fifth time since joining the SoCon in 2014-15.
  • The Bears have three players averaging in double figures in scoring led by Jaron Dougherty's 14 points per game. Amoria Neal-Tysor follows with 12.1 points per game and Shannon Titus' 10.5 points per contest.
