CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The battle for basketball purple supremacy resumes on Wednesday as Western Carolina heads to chromatic rival Furman for a 7 p.m. contest inside Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C., as the Catamounts open a three-game Southern Conference road swing.
The clash between the Catamounts and Paladins will be streamed on ESPN+
(paid subscription required) with live Catamount Sports Network audio coverage commencing at 6:30 p.m., streaming online at CatamountSports.com and locally on 105.7 FM / 540 AM WRGC, The River.
Western Carolina is 8-10 overall and 2-3 in Southern Conference games after an 84-64 home loss to Wofford on Saturday.
Joe Petrakis paced the Catamounts with a career-high 17 points, going 6-for-13 from the field and 5-for-10 behind the 3-point line. Petrakis also grabbed a team-best six rebounds.
Tyler Harris added 12 points while
Nicholas Robinson finished in double figures for the 16
th time this season with 11 points.
Furman is 12-7 overall and 4-2 in league matchups after dropping a 71-69 thriller at Chattanooga on Saturday. Jalen Slawson led the Paladins with a game-high 22 points. He leads Furman and ranks sixth in the SoCon in points per game with 15.6, just ahead of Mike Bothwell and Alex Hunter with 15.4 points per game in a tie for sixth.
Wednesday's game is the 80
th all-time meeting with Furman leading the series 50-29. The Paladins swept the season series in 2020-21 and have won the past 11 contests between the schools.
WCU remains on the road, heading to Macon, Ga., and Mercer on Saturday (Jan. 22) for a 5 p.m. tip-off. The game will be streamed on ESPN+
